Vlogger Yosoda Bohara on Disability, Sport, and Life in Kathmandu
This is the first in a new series of films from disabled Nepali activists who recently completed a DJP filmmaking workshop in Kathmandu.
Former national rugby player and footballer Yosoda Bohara had planned to build her future around sports before an injury left her disabled. Now a wheelchair user, she makes and edits vlogs, navigates the barriers of getting around Kathmandu, and has taken up boccia, a Paralympic precision ball sport for athletes with physical disabilities. In this film by DJP Fellow Punam Bhujel, Yosoda reflects on her injury, her life today, and her return to competitive sports. “I had only one dream,” she says. “I wanted to play for my country.” Now, through boccia, she believes she still can.

Filmmaker: Punam Bhujel
Punam Bhujel is a disability rights advocate, theater artist, and storyteller from Damak. She has a bachelor’s degree in Humanities and has been actively engaged in trainings and programs on disability rights, climate justice, and community advocacy. She promotes disability rights through social media and YouTube by sharing videos and stories, and also raises awareness through street and stage performances. Drawing on her lived experiences, she explores the intersection of disability rights and climate change. Through this fellowship, she hopes to further develop her storytelling skills and create impactful stories for social change.
